The Fab 15

Think of 15 albums, CDs, LPs (if you're over 40) or cassettes (if you're over 30) that had such a profound effect on you they changed your life. Dug into your soul. Music that brought you to life when you heard it. Royally affected you, kicked you in the ass, literally socked you in the gut, is what I mean. Then when you finish, tag 15 others, including me. Make sure you copy and paste this part so they know the drill. This is a drop in the bucket, in no particular order. You can not contain the love of music to fifteen albums:

1. Snoop Dogg - Doggystyle
2. Tupac - All Eyez on Me
3. Zepplin - iV
4. Guns n Roses - Appettite for Destruction
5. Pearl Jam - Ten
6. REM - Automatic for the People
7. Portishead - Dummy
8. Madonna - Like a Virgin
9. Madonna - Ray of Light
10. Tokyo Police Club - A Lesson in Crime
11. Alice in Chains - Dirt
12. Nirvana - Nevermind
13. The Offspring - Smash
14. Green Day - Dookie
15. Weezer - Blue Album

25 Things About Me

I've never been 'tagged' before.  Here goes:

1. I love reading crafting and design blogs. I think they are pretty.
2. One of my biggest pet peeves is the NYC Subway.
3.  And yet, I love the subway and public transportation.
4.  Still. . . I miss owning a car.
5.  I have a custom invitation and design business: Buttercream Cards
6.  I think most everyone I know is much more creative than I am.
7.  I'd rather sit in a bar or a lounge than go clubbing.
8.  Other than a family cruise to the Mediterranean I've only been out of the country to Paris (TJ doesn't count!)
9.  I really like food and consider myself a mild foodie, but I am very picky.
10. Ex: Since high school I haven't eaten any meat that has been ground up.
11.  I'm currently reading Service Included and The Meaning of Night - up next Kitchen Confidential.
12. I'm a HORRIBLE correspondent.  I only keep in really good touch with 4 people - Not including my parents.
13.  I am a nail biter and have been since grade school.  I remember when I noticed I was doing it - It was around the 3rd grade.  It's gross.
14.  I am extremely sensitive - I take most of what people say to me personally.
15.  I want to go back to Santorini with my husband and my daughter.
16.  I have a daughter.  It sounds weirder out loud than it doesn't writing it down.
17.  I am totally socially awkward and feel uncomfortable around people I don't know that well.
18.  I talk to my Mom almost every day.
19.  I miss my really miss my Grandpa - even though we weren't that close.
20.  In my early college years, my roommates called me The Ripper.  I can't seem to live that down.
21.  I  believe in karma.  If I do or say something to make someone else feel better, the universe automatically pays me back by making me feel good about myself at that moment.  If i do or say something to make someone else feel bad, I usually think something bad will happen to me.
22.  I love grilled cheese.  At home I nuke it.  I toast two pieces of bread (well done).  Layer two slices of Kraft American in between the bread and microwave for exactly 32 seconds.  Not a moment more or less.  I can eat so many of these Nuked Cheese sandwiches.
23.  Running will always be a part of who I am, I may stop and start - but I'm a runner for life.
24.  I am addicted to trashy reality tv like Rock of Love, Real Housewives, Sober House, etc. . .
25.  I make the same wish every time I blow out a birthday candle, break a wishbone, or toss a coin in a fountain. . . and it's not for world peace.

Oh Baby!

A fantabulous array of color!

Never until Sadie did I ever think that I'd be so excited about the different bodily fluids that come out of one little baby.

For example - this morning Sadie was having tummy time and I noticed a big green snotty substance under her nose mid head turn.  Let's back up - Sadie's had some odd congested sounds coming out of her nose/throat for about a week now.  We have tried the saline solution and suction thing with no success.  We can see stuff way in the back of her nose but haven't been able to get it out.  So fast forward to tummy time - I was so excited that she was able to get this out, I started cheering like she turned her head.

So - snot, different color poops, drool, spit up.  It's a magical rainbow of color packaged in a little Sadie monster.

Oh Baby!

3 Weeks and Counting

Today is Sadie's 3 week birthday.  I can't believe we've had her at home for this long already.  It's been a roller coaster ride that I gather will last her entire life.  We are still waking her up every 3 hours (unless she wakes before then) to feed her.  She's eating well - so that's not a concern anymore.  She's been moody for the last few days and no matter what we do - we can't seem to figure out what's wrong.  She has, what I would consider - really bad diaper rash.  We are trying to let her have some airing out time everyday to help.  We think that it must really hurt or sting - because every time she pee's she starts crying (of course we don't know she's peeing, we just know she's crying and so we change her diaper). She also cries when we wake her up, when we change her diaper, when we sit in one position too long. . . the list goes on.

We gave her the pacifier for the first time today.  We're hoping that will make her a little happier during those crying times when we absolutely know she's not hungry.

People often say oh "she's an easy baby" or "he's a difficult baby".  I wouldn't know how to answer that about Sadie love.  She's fairly predictable - she cries and we do something about it and if we're lucky, she falls asleep.  We're extra lucky if we get 30 minutes of quiet alert time with her.  It's heart breaking when she cries and we don't know what to do about it.  I wonder if the easy or difficult part is more a description of the parents than the child?

Today was also Sadie's first Christmas.  We had the traditional Ashlock Christmas breakfast (which she most likely enjoyed for lunch).  We opened presents from Santa (Sadie was of course asleep during this time) - who by the way, was presented with a letter transcribed by Daddy on behalf of Sadie.  Santa ate the cookies Sadie left out and I think really took to heart her letter.

We even went for a Christmas walk and watched the small dogs at the small dog run (Sadie was of course, asleep during this time as well).

It's been an eventful day.  We're exhausted, but of course the only one sleeping now is Sadie.  And we love her all the more for it.

Happy Hanukkah!

Tonight is the first night of Hanukkah.

This is Sadie's very first Hanukkah and to commemorate, I'm attempting to make Sweet Potato latkes... An experiment in - dare I say - disaster.  They don't seem to be setting well...  Still working on the first batch.  Hopefully they are like regular pancakes - where they get progressively better.

The scene is comical really.  Sadie is sleeping in her car seat, Bob Marley is crooning in the background.  The Christmas tree lights are lit up.  Jason is off at a bar watching the Seahawk game.  Our menorah is set up in front of the TV.  I just wish there was more I could share with her.

At least I know what she's getting for her first Hanukkah gift - a boob full of milk, a gift I KNOW she'll love.

Happy Hanukkah!
